FAQs
1. How do I hire a professional voice actor for my project?
It’s a simple process. Send me your script (or a working draft), let me know the style you’d like and I’ll take care of the rest. You’ll receive a clear quote and a delivery date, then I’ll record from my professional studio and provide polished audio in the format you need. If you’d prefer to direct the session live, that’s no problem, we can connect online so you can guide the performance in real time.
2. What should I include in my brief when working with a voice actor?
A strong brief helps me give you the exact delivery you’re after. Include:
-
The script (final or draft)
-
Your preferred tone or style (conversational, energetic, calm, etc.)
-
Who the audience is
-
Any pacing requests (fast and upbeat, steady and clear)
-
Where the audio will be used (advert, eLearning, podcast, etc.)
-
The file type you’d like (MP3, WAV, etc.)
These details make the quoting and recording process smooth and efficient.
3. How much does it cost to hire a voice over artist?
Voice over rates vary depending on the script length, usage and turnaround time. For example, a short explainer video for internal use will cost less than a national TV advert. I’ll always provide an upfront quote so you know exactly what to expect, with no hidden extras. For more help Gravy for the Brain has an excellent rates guide.
4. How quickly can you deliver a voice over recording?
For short projects like adverts or promos, I can often deliver within 24 hours. Longer projects, such as audiobooks or full eLearning modules, naturally take more time, but I’ll confirm a clear timeline before starting. If you’re working to a tight deadline, let me know; I can often prioritise rush jobs.
5. Can I direct the voice over session live?
Yes, if you’d like to be part of the recording process, we can arrange a live session using Zoom, Source Connect, or Google Meet. You’ll be able to listen in and give feedback on the spot, which is a great way to make sure the performance fits your vision perfectly.
6. Do you offer different styles of voice over?
Yes. I can adapt to a wide range of styles depending on the project. From bright and playful for adverts, to calm and clear for corporate explainers, to warm and friendly for eLearning. If you’re not sure what you need, I can provide a few sample reads to help you choose. Listen to my demos for a better idea of what I can deliver.
7. What file formats do you provide for voice recordings?
Most clients request either MP3 or WAV files, but I can deliver in whichever format works best for your project. Just let me know when you book.
8. Can you help with editing and post-production of the voice over?
Yes. I can deliver clean, ready-to-use audio, or provide raw takes if you prefer to handle the editing yourself. I can also remove breaths, reduce background noise and add light mastering so the recording is broadcast-ready. If you need extras like background music mixed in, that can be arranged too.
10. How do I know if your voice is right for my project?
The best way is to listen to my demos, which cover a variety of styles and tones. If you’d like something more specific, I can record a short custom sample using a section of your script so you can hear how it sounds before we go ahead.
11. What happens if I need changes or revisions to the recording?
Revisions are a normal part of the process. If the change is due to script updates after recording, that may affect the fee, but if it’s a performance tweak (for example, faster pace, more energy, softer tone), I’ll usually include one or two rounds of revisions in the original quote. My goal is to make sure you’re happy with the final result.
12. What industries do you provide voice overs for?
I work across a wide range of industries including advertising, corporate training, eLearning, video games, audiobooks, explainer videos, IVR and phone systems, and podcasts. Each industry requires a slightly different approach, and I adapt my delivery to suit your audience.
13. Can you record voice overs from your home studio?
Yes! I have a fully equipped professional home studio, which allows me to deliver high-quality recordings quickly and efficiently. It’s perfect for most projects, from adverts and eLearning to audiobooks and podcasts. If you prefer, I’m also happy to travel to a studio of your choice. This can be ideal for live-directed sessions, specific equipment needs, or projects that require collaboration on-site. Either way, the goal is the same: crystal-clear, professional audio that meets your project’s exact requirements.
